The real issue.

I wore a pair of knit pants this morning which I haven't tried on in a year or so. Last time I wore them I noticed that they were shrinking. The length got shorter and pretty soon I was wearing high water pants. How could I wear them today you might ask? Because as some of you know, I recently lost 20 pounds. Turns out the pants were not getting shorter, my butt was getting bigger! :)

Introductions

So I have started this blog for multiple reasons, one of the major ones being to record some of the wild and crazy things that my super creative toddler comes up with from day to day. I'd rather not forget but in the course of daily life and single parenting, it is easy to pass by those sweet and amusing moments and dwell on the stresses that make life insignificant.

So without further rambling, I introduce her to you...the amazingly flexible child who eats raisins with her toes. I assure you, I did not initiate this, she came up with it all on her own. And being the good mother that I am, rather than discouraging such behavior, I took pictures.

Here she is holding the raisin with her toe:

Then eats it:

And you can see how proud she is of herself:

So, Some of you may know that I am planning the first ever Gram-Positive Pathogens conference. I was highly amused at some of the abstract titles I received. KB is the faculty member who had the brainstorm for this conference in the first place. I have now received 2 interesting abstract titles. "Why KB knows more about Staphylococcus aureus than me." and "KB needs to work on his jump shot." This provided me with much amusement, but I was even more amused when I saw the following response being sent out:

"I am sorry to inform you that your abstracts have been rejected for participation in the National Conference on Gram-Positive Pathogens. Your first abstract entitled "Why KB knows more about S. aureus than me" was deemed too broad of a topic and would surely require much more space than our poster boards would allow. Your second abstract entitled "Why KB needs to work on his jump-shot" has the opposite problem - obviously not much to discuss here. I am sorry the news could not be better..."

Nice Job KB!

Myspace blog #1

A few months ago, one of my faculty came in, sat down near my desk, and said "I like your earrings!" Well, I thought this strange, as researchers do not usually take into account fashion in any shape or form. (Sorry for the generalization, but that has been my experience thus far). I said thank you of course, but also looked at him rather quizzically. He then said, "Well, they look like Staphylococcus aureus!" Of course, they caught his attention because they look like bacteria, now that is a researcher for you!

Oh to go back to that time....
